If you're serious about making money in Forex...

I don't want to be negative but there is a lot of half truths in the forex world. Here are just a few:

"learn this easy system" - Easy system for the trader who has done it for years. It's not so easy for the new trader. Spanish is easy if you grew up speaking it. If you start learning today, it's hard. Trading is like learning a language. Its not only the words, you have to understand the idea behind the words. Reaching this level in your trading has been described as "trading in the Zone". It's something you can only understand when you get there. It cannot be explained.

"when all the lights turn green, buy!" - Most of these red light, green light systems are based on moving average indicators. If indicators alone were reliable, everyone would be rich. Yes moving averages are great at catching trends, but then all the money is given back in periods when the market starts to chop up and down. There is no indicator on this earth that can detect that a market is about to consolidate (get choppy), or start trending. System designers constantly struggle with the balance between catching the trend and filtering out the choppy market. This is why Automated trading programs do well for a while and then blow up the persons account.

"Buy my new ebook called Forex [insert exciting name here]" - Translation: Yes I'll blind you with the longest most exciting sales letter you have ever read and sell you a $69 to $2000 ebook/package. The book just describes a bunch of indicators used in a seemingly never ending combination of ways. If you are going to take this approach, I suggest the forexfactory forum, where there are probably hundreds of indicator based trading systems, all for free.

To be successful, You have to control your emotions, your ego, your negative sides and your fear of loss. Then you have to make sure your money management is right, make sure you are risking the right amount on each trade. I could go on.

Dear reader, I beg you to take this seriously. Its not a game. As an experienced trader, I find it insulting when Forex is promoted as a get rich quick scheme. You should find it insulting too. If you have not found out yet, you'll soon discover that most systems, books and forex signal trading services are only interested in your money.

The focus is in the wrong place. Everyone is looking for the magical secret system. They spend hours on forums looking for it, but everything they try does not seem to work. Why? Because the system should be the last thing you look for. The order of importance should be; Trader Psychology, Money Management (position sizing) and then the system. If you don't understand yourself and how to manage positions, the best system in the world, will still not work. This is the real Holy Grail of trading.
